TUPA (work in progress) First showing at URBAN PERFORMANCE SERIES #4 in URBANRAUM Berlin on 10th November 2019
“Tupa” is a communal kitchen / living room space in traditional Finnish farm houses. In our work it represents a meeting point of the different characters and narratives that constantly arrive and depart. We aim to allow the “basement” of our subconscious to reveal itself without filtering the immediacy of our imagination. Giving permission for the words to fall through. As the result of us three coming together Finnish language has become an important source of inspiration for the piece. It is a point of reference in relation to each other, in relation to our shared heritage and in relation to our togetherness in the space.
Anni Lattunen, Silja Tuovinen and Annukka Hirvonen are independent dance artists originally from Finland. After studying, working and gaining experience, each in different places with different influences, they all have found a base in Berlin to develop their personal artistic approach, which for all of them has been highly influenced and inspired by the art of improvisation and instant composition. Through their common background, heritage and interest in working with the combination of text and movement, they organically found their way to meet in studio to build a shared practice. Fascinated by the process a desire for performing and creating a piece together emerged.
