Annukka Hirvonen (born in Oulu, Finland) is a dancer, choreographer and teacher based in Berlin, Germany. In the recent years her work and research have been highly influenced and inspired by the art of improvisation and instant composition, which she uses as a source for choreographic work, creative playground, practice of embodied wisdom/intelligence and intuitive choice making. As an artist she is fascinated by the qualities of presence and listening, deeply inhabited physicality, an awakeful, lived body that reflects and interprets the human story with clarity and transparency. The realms of the intuitive and subconscious, the unknown and unspeakable, yet maybe the most essential, continue to be her great interests both in life and in her work with dance and performance art.
She is a co-founder / artist at Berlin based Company HAA and co-founder and a member of Collective ONE:THIRD, winning the jury price of Festival 100 Grad in Sophiensaele in 2015 with their work "Fate of the Galaxies". Over the years she has been continuously collaborating with a variety of artists of different disciplines on several projects, presenting work in different venues in Berlin (Sophiensaele, Dock11, Uferstudios, Laborgras, Ackerstadtpalast amongst others) and festivals all over Europe. With a long background in both music and dance, she holds a BA in Dance Performance (Fontys Dance Academy, NL), MA Master of Arts in Music Education (University of Oulu, Finland) and is an experienced, certified yoga teacher. After working and studyng with a wide range of choreographers in Finland and in the Netherlands, and finishing an internship with cie. Toula Limnaios in Berlin 2013, she found her base in the city continuing her work as a freelance dancer / independent maker, collaborating with a variety of artists of different disciplines and teaching classes and workshops of improvisation, contemporary dance and yoga in different settings. Alongside her own work she continuously studies and develops herself through attending workshops and master classes, mainly focused into the field of improvisation and instant composition. From September 2019 on she has been curating the "Urban Performance Series" in Urbanraum Berlin together with Jenny Ocampo.
